SPECIALIST VETERINARY NURSE IN ONCOLOGY

Grade 5: £29,605.00 to £33,966.00 per annum. 

A one-off recruitment incentive payment of £2000.00 may be offered where eligibility criteria is met.

Could you be our new team member? We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our nursing team at the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital as a Specialist Nurse working as part of the Oncology team. 

This is a permanent, full time position (36.5 hours a week) with a 36 day annual leave entitlement. The post holder is entitled to join the Cambridge University Assistants Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The Oncology service is a key part of our multidisciplinary referral hospital, and requires close communication with the other clinical services. We are a dedicated team of clinicians and nurses who are committed to providing the best care for our patients and honouring the human animal bond.  We have a busy and variable caseload, which will require you to be adaptable, an excellent communicator and have the ability to work well under pressure. 

The successful applicant may not have existing oncology related skills but will have a willingness to learn, and a passion about delivering great patient centred care. Your role will include specialist Oncology consultations, diagnostic investigations and treatments, including the use of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, photodynamic therapy, immunotherapy in the management of referred cases. You will be responsible for running chemotherapy clinics, including handling and administering chemotherapy drugs and  discussing treatments with owners and veterinarians. You will be involved in the delivery of radiotherapy and with the care of inpatients receiving chemotherapy. You will also have an opportunity to be involved with ethically approved, clinical research. Any necessary training will be tailored to you and delivered in a supportive and structured way by experienced colleagues on site. Further didactic training is encouraged.
