Purpose of the role

The Department wishes to appoint an individual to lead the oncology service team, with a start date of 1 October 2019 or earlier.

The role is for 3 years in the first instance.

Appointment Criteria: The candidate must have at least 7 years experience in veterinary medical oncology and be currently active in this field. He/she must have published at least three original articles in refereed Journals as first author and at least three additional articles as co-author, all related to veterinary oncology.

He / she should be internationally recognised as a specialist in Medical Oncology.

This role is highly specialised and will provide team leadership in oncology (two Senior Clinical Training Scholars, one Radiation Technologist, one grade 5 veterinary nurse); manage a varied oncology caseload; coordinate the delivery of the oncology service in a timely and cost-effective fashion; develop the oncology unit to enable it to continue to deliver gold standard care for patients, and market these services to the veterinary profession. The role holder will also be supported by the University Reader in Veterinary Oncology, who is currently the senior clinician in the area.

The person appointed will take a lead in the training of postgraduate Senior Clinical Training Scholars to sit the ECVIM-Medical Oncology Diploma, together with the University Reader in Veterinary Oncology. The role holder will supervise the deployment of Junior Clinical Training Scholars during their rotation period in oncology.

The role holder will participate in an on call rota. The role will participate in the clinical rotation teaching of 70 x 6th year students and 140 x 4th and 5th year students and lead the section of the medicine rotation devoted to oncology.
