26/06/2022: Medical Oncology internship @ University College Dublin Veterinary Hospital

UCDVH is a multidisciplinary hospital with recognised boarded Specialists in a wide range of disciplines (including internal medicine, oncology, surgery, anaesthesia, and imaging). The successful candidate will be supervised and work daily with an ACVIM board certified oncologist. 
The oncology intern will assist with new referral consultations, diagnostic investigations, admissions and administration of chemotherapy patients and in-patient hospital care. The interns are encouraged to be involved in a clinical research project and/or case report preparation. This is an excellent opportunity for a veterinarian contemplating enrolling in an Oncology Residency Program or seeking to further their knowledge in oncology and available treatment options.



  • Veterinary degree which can be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (http://www.vci.ie)
  • A high level of spoken and written English
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • High level of professionalism
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • An interest in undergraduate teaching 

Ideally, the successful candidate should have a minimum of one-two years of clinical experience or have completed a rotating internship, and show a strong interest in Veterinary Oncology. 
All interns are expected to supervise and assist undergraduate students during their clinical rotations, to participate in hospital rounds, weekly journal clubs and resident seminars. Interns are expected to present one hospital seminar throughout the year which is often linked to a clinical research project and/or case report preparation. Evening, weekend and public holiday duties are required, based on an equally shared 1 in 5 rota. The successful candidate will also be rostered for evening hospital duties (late shift 6-8pm).
