The AWARE project is co-instituted and supported by our colleague dr. Martin Kessler.

He recently sent us these pictures of a day in the work of the people at AWARE.

It concerns a little elephant with  poacher's snare around it's leg.

It is a maternal heard of 30. So needs to be chased away. But the mother won't  leave. She is charging us, so she needs to be knocked out as well.

There are pictures of removing the snare and treating the injured leg.

Finally, baby and mum get anaesthesia reversal simultaneously.

The AWARE team is happy but exhausted after a full day of searching for the injured animal and managing to rescue it.
